Bike around the Neighborhood

If your kiddos are wanting to learn how to ride a bike, the summer is the perfect time to teach them! Biking around the neighborhood or a local park is an easy way to get out energy and enjoy the outdoors!

Fishing

Teaching your kids, or a friend, how to fish is so easy fun! It is an easy way to enjoy the outdoors, spend time with friends and family all while learning a new skill!

Visit Your Local Park

Visiting your local park for the day is such an easy way to have fun with the kiddos and not shell out any big bucks for amusement rides or park food. Simply pack lunch, a few snacks, and sunscreen. Some local parks also have a water park area so on a hot day your kiddos will love to play in the water! Just make sure to bring towels and extra clothes!

Build a Fort in the Living Room

Growing up we all used to make forts in our living rooms. Now it is your turn to teach your kiddos how to make the perfect living room fort! Drape some old sheets over kitchen chairs or your couches. Play Twister with Colored Shaving Cream

If you have Twister on hand, this is a fun way to spice the game up! The kids will love it and it is so funny watching everyone slip around! Purchase multiple cans of shaving cream and food coloring. Simply empty the contents of the shaving cream into a bucket, drop as many drops as you want of the food coloring and mix it together. Make sure to keep all four of the colors in separate buckets. Once all of the colors are mixed, scoop out a blob of colored shaving cream onto the correct dot on the Twister board. Then you are ready to play Twister! The food coloring will stain your clothing, so make sure to wear old clothes!

All of these activities are inexpensive and a sure way to make the summer much more fun!

April is National Care Car Month! “Why April?” you may ask yourself. In April, as winter comes to an end, it is time to get your car ready for spring driving and summer road trips! National Car Care Month reminds you to take care of any issues that may have occurred or been ignored during winter. Spring time is filled with sunshine, some afternoon showers and lots of pollen. Make sure your tires are rotated, balanced and in good condition for those wet roads. Deep potholes aren’t friendly to shocks and struts. An inspection to determine wear or leaks can alleviate bigger issues down the road. Also having your wheels properly aligned after a season of tough conditions can help keep you on the road in a safe direction. Also make sure your windshield wiper blades are being replaced every 6-12 months to avoid streaking on your windshield.

With all of that pollen in the air, your vehicle’s air filter can get clogged up pretty quickly. Make sure you are routinely checking and changing it to ensure optimal air flow is being produced. When it comes to vehicle safety, the brake system is at the top of the list. Making sure your brakes are working properly before you head out on those slick roads or long summer road trips will ensure for a safe and comfortable ride! Brakes are a normal wear item for any car and eventually they’re going to need to be replaced. For routine maintenance, check your vehicle’s braking system at least once a year. A thorough inspection should include brake lining wear, brake fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of hoses and brake lines, brake and dash warning lights, as well as taking the car for a test drive to detect other potential brake system problems.

The Heart Walk will be taking place on Saturday, April 9th, rain or shine! The festivities will being at 8:30 AM and the walk begins at 9:00 AM at the LSU Old Front Nine. The theme of the Heart Walk is “Let’s Get Physical – Walking Through the 80s!” So don’t forget to wear your best 80s outfit filled with bright neon colors, tights and sweat bands! Be on the lookout for our vehicles at the entrance of the event, by our tent and before you start your run or walk. Your favorite vehicle might just be at the Capital Area Heart Walk!

Spring Cleaning Your Vehicle

Spring is approaching quickly! We know how eager you are to start spring cleaning your home, but don’t forget to spring clean your vehicle! Giving your car a good scrub inside and out not only protects your investment, but it’ll make your vehicle a nicer place for those beautiful spring days! We have complied some tips and tricks to help you give your vehicle a clean start to spring!

Freshening the Interior

Start by cleaning out all the trash, to-go cups, and any other debris you have in your vehicle. Make sure to slide your seats forward and backwards to get every piece of trash. Thoroughly vacuum out your vehicle including the trunk. Then organize what is left. Next will be to deep clean your vehicle’s interior. If dirt has embedded itself in the textures of your vinyl, some detail scrubbing with an old toothbrush will do the trick! The old toothbrush can come in handy to clean the crumbs and dirt out of those pesky seams in your seat cushions. If you have any shoe scuff marks or sticky food stains on any vinyl or leather parts of your car, take a Magic Eraser to those and they’ll disappear! Once you’ve got your vehicle completely detailed and squeaky clean, put a few dryer sheets under your cars seats to have a nice clean scent in your vehicle!

Cleaning the Exterior

Now that the interior of your vehicle is nice and clean, it is time to take care of the exterior of your vehicle. Most people jump right into washing their vehicle’s paint, but try cleaning your tires and rims before washing your vehicle’s paint. The tires and rims are often the dirtiest part of the vehicle and as you spray them off, dirt can get on the paint of your vehicle. So spray and clean your tires, rims and undercarriage first before you move on to the rest of the vehicle!

Make sure you have a cleaner formulated specifically for cars. Once you’ve mixed the cleaner and water, you can go one step further and fill a second bucket with clean rinse water. Use the clean bucket of water to rinse off your wash mitt often. Rinsing off your wash mitt often helps remove most of the road grit and helps prevent scratching your vehicle. When you are finished washing your vehicle, make sure to wash your mitt in the washing machine to ensure that is it completely clean. Make sure when rinsing your vehicle off, go from top to bottom. This ensures that the soap is running downwards and will help you clean it off better. Dry off your vehicle with a micro fiber towel or a squeegee/water blade. Then you can move on to waxing, cleaning your headlights with a headlight restoration kit, and then lastly, cleaning your glass. Make sure you are leaving your glass till last! Use a cleaner with no ammonia and a microfiber cloth to scrub both the inside and outside of your windows.

Although this is a few hours of work, detailing and caring for your vehicle yourself can save you thousands each year! Further, it protects and lengthens the life of your automobile investment.

When should you replace your vehicle’s air filter?

When the airflow in your vehicle is significantly blocked, it’s time to replace your vehicle’s air filter. A clogged filter results in lousy fuel economy and subpar performance. It’s crucial to replace your air filter before it completely compromises airflow, but it’s also beneficial to have a slightly dirty air filter to block out tiny particles. So, if you’re wondering how often you should change your air filter or when to change your air filter, All Star Automotive is here with the answers!

Every vehicle’s maintenance schedule is different, but, on average, your vehicle’s air filter should be changed every 3 years or 30,000 miles. Every vehicle is different and some can go longer than others, but you also need to take into consideration how much you’re driving, and what your driving conditions are. If you’re driving on the highway every day for work or school, then your vehicle’s air filter won’t have to be replaced until you hit 30,000 miles or 3 years. But if you’re driving on dirt roads and gravel, then you will probably need to replace your vehicle’s air filter before the 30,000 mile mark.
