Labor Day Weekend Festivities

Labor Day may gesture the end of summer, but it also is the start of many things to come! This Labor Day weekend may give you and your family one last peace of mind with outdoor cooking and picnicking. It is a celebration for all the hard laborers out there, so why not partake in some festivities in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas?! Baton Rouge Zoo

Member’s Night at the Baton Rouge Zoo is a great place to take the family for an exclusive peak at the zoo! This event is exclusively for zoo members only and will be closed to the public. You get to see what the animals are up to when the gates are closed to the public. Admissions gates open on September 1st, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. This special members occasion will feature “The Running of the Ducks”, and Face Painting to name a few. This is one event you do not want to miss out on! We encourage you to bring your flashlight for the dark!

Hill Memorial Library

The Hill Memorial Library are doing some amazing things in Baton Rouge.  There is an exhibition on our animal earthly companions, and it’s free to the public! They are going to focus on how intriguing and intricate the relationship between humans and animals are.  These fascinations are documented and housed within LSU Libraries Special Collections. We suggest you get the kids down there to learn about our complexed earthly companions. This special is running through September 16. Zydeco Country

It’s time to celebrate the oldest Zydeco Festival this Labor Day weekend in Opelousas; the Zydeco Capital of the world! This weekend at the Zydeco Music Festival will be thrill for the entire family. The creole culture and zydeco music will definitely keep you and your family entertained. They are going to be paying tribute to featured artist, Grammy Winner- Chubby Carrier, and others! The festival will be held at the Yambilee Festival Grounds off Highway 190, (1939 W. Landry,Opelousas), from September 1-2. The gates will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 12 O’ clock, Midnight- or until the festivities stop.  This is definitely going to be a great time for you to get out and spend some upbeat quality time with the family or friends! Did we mention there will be great food and arts and crafts there as well?! Admission to Zydeco Country is $15 for adult, and $5 for 12 years and under.
