2.pngAs the cool air approaches, we all need to be aware of how to keep our vehicles up to optimum performance. South Louisiana climate doesn’t always allow us to put winter vehicle maintenance at the top of mind. Well, you no longer have to be in the dark on how to keep your vehicle in great shape for the winter months. The All Star Family is here to shed some light on great winter vehicle tips!

Have you been holding off for an oil change? Well procrastinate no more! Your vehicle should have the right viscosity, or thickness of oil at this time of year. Oil tends to thicken as the temperature drops, and if it is too thick, it would not do the best job of lubricating your vehicle’s engine. Being able to see in conditions when there may be a little ice on the road is imperative. When was the last time your windshield wiper blades were replaced? Wiper blades are usually good for six months to one year depending on the usage, so be sure to change your blades if you are due.  Also, fill up your windshield reservoir with windshield fluid, because plain water would not do this time of year, as it freezes.

These are just a few vehicle tips to keep your vehicle running at optimum performance during the colder months. Even though this is South Louisiana, it is better to be prepared and care for your vehicle properly when the harsh weather times arrive. Schedule your service appointment with us today!

Labor Day Weekend Festivities

Labor Day may gesture the end of summer, but it also is the start of many things to come! This Labor Day weekend may give you and your family one last peace of mind with outdoor cooking and picnicking. Baton Rouge Zoo

Member’s Night at the Baton Rouge Zoo is a great place to take the family for an exclusive peak at the zoo! This event is exclusively for zoo members only and will be closed to the public. You get to see what the animals are up to when the gates are closed to the public. Admissions gates open on September 1st, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. This special members occasion will feature “The Running of the Ducks”, and Face Painting to name a few. This is one event you do not want to miss out on! We encourage you to bring your flashlight for the dark!

Hill Memorial Library

The Hill Memorial Library are doing some amazing things in Baton Rouge.  There is an exhibition on our animal earthly companions, and it’s free to the public! They are going to focus on how intriguing and intricate the relationship between humans and animals are.  These fascinations are documented and housed within LSU Libraries Special Collections. We suggest you get the kids down there to learn about our complexed earthly companions. This special is running through September 16. Zydeco Country

It’s time to celebrate the oldest Zydeco Festival this Labor Day weekend in Opelousas; the Zydeco Capital of the world! This weekend at the Zydeco Music Festival will be thrill for the entire family. The creole culture and zydeco music will definitely keep you and your family entertained. They are going to be paying tribute to featured artist, Grammy Winner- Chubby Carrier, and others! The festival will be held at the Yambilee Festival Grounds off Highway 190, (1939 W. Landry,Opelousas), from September 1-2. The gates will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 12 O’ clock, Midnight- or until the festivities stop.  This is definitely going to be a great time for you to get out and spend some upbeat quality time with the family or friends! Did we mention there will be great food and arts and crafts there as well?! Admission to Zydeco Country is $15 for adult, and $5 for 12 years and under.

As you can see, there are quite a few things to get out the house to do this Labor Day Weekend. From spending quality time with the kids, to partying like there is no tomorrow! We suggest you get out there, and liven up Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas with your presence!

All Star Automotive Group Winter Driving Tips!

Stay Safe This Winter – All Star Automotive Group

It’s time to ensure that both you and your vehicle are ready for the winter! Driving can be a little tricky during the colder months of the year and your vehicle needs to be prepared. Winter Air temperatures here in Louisiana typically range 40- to 50-degrees Fahrenheit colder than typical summer temperatures, which means tire pressures naturally change. Tire pressure should be checked weekly because of the temperature drop. Low tire pressures wastes fuel and more importantly, causes the tire to run hotter from the extra friction. Your vehicle’s tires should have between 3-5 psi higher than normal pressure for winter driving. Pressure increase helps offset reduced hot tires.

All tire pressures are meant to be measured in a cold state. This means the tires are at the same temperature as the outside air. If you park your vehicle outside or in an unheated area such as a detached garage, it is best to measure tire pressures first thing in the morning. Cold mornings are a hassle already, but this is when tire pressures are ideal. If you were to measure your tire pressure at any other time, you are recording useless data because the tires are not completely cold.

Check your vehicles manual for dashboard lights and meanings. If you are unable to check your tire pressure yourself, it is possible that your vehicle will let you know of low tire pressures on its own. Look for a warning light that looks like an exclamation point with parenthesis around it. This light will automatically turn on if your tire pressure is low. Take this caution light seriously and cater to your tires.

Also, be sure to fuel your vehicle fully in case your tires go out while driving and you are forced to stop. Pull over to a safe location with your hazard lights on for everyone to see. Staying noticed and letting drivers be aware of your location is essential for your safety. A full tank of gas will allow you stay warm while you wait for help. I would like to say that our experience at All Star Ford Lincoln was nothing less than exceptional. My wife and I weren’t intending to buy another vehicle, but this flood thought otherwise.
