Fall Car Care Tips from All Star Automotive!

It’s that time of year again. Summer is coming to an end, parents have sent their children back to school and although you may not live in a part of the country where the temperatures drop below 50 degrees, you may be traveling to a part of the country where they do! The start of Fall is the perfect time of year to prepare your vehicle for colder temperatures and traveling for the upcoming holidays. All Star Automotive would like to offer the following car maintenance tips to get vehicles ready for the damp, cold road ahead!

Schedule a service appointment online for a full check up on your vehicle. At the beginning of the Fall season, it’s important to have the following items checked by our certified service technicians:

  • Battery cables and terminals
  • Belts and hoses
  • Air filters
  • Windshield wipers
  • Heaters and defrosters
  • All fluids including anti-freeze, oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, automatic transmission fluid and windshield washer fluid.

Be sure to also have our service technicians take a good look at your tires. If there are signs of uneven tread wear, that could indicate under-inflation, unbalanced tires or misaligned wheels. Tire pressure is important to check once a month, as well as tread depth. Your tread will be even more important during the autumn months when wet, dead leaves cover the roadways!

Take care of your lights and turn signals. Fall, along with less favorable weather like Winter, also means it’s time to turn the clocks back for daylight savings. With a shorter day comes a longer night, so be sure your headlights, taillights and turn signals are in proper working order and shining at the appropriate levels. Our service department is happy to inspect your lights and turn signals, and replace/repair them as needed.

Cold weather is hard on batteries, so it’s also smart to have the battery and charging system checked for optimum performance. Of course, we all know it’s smart to be diligent about changing the oil and filter at recommended intervals throughout the entire year, but be on extra alert during the Fall and Winter months. Dirty oil can spell trouble in winter! And if you’re due for a tune-up, now is the perfect time to do it. Winter magnifies existing problems such as pings, hard starts, sluggish performance or rough idling.

Remember, not only can these Fall car care tips keep your vehicle running well during the colder weather, but it also keeps it newer for longer, and will keep you and your family safe on the road.
