The new Scion FR-S “open” concept, of course! Toyota/Scion has done the right thing, yet again, by cutting off the roof of the Scion FR-S.

The new Scion FR-S “open” concept was recently unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, and was a crowd pleaser. A topless version has always been part of Scion’s plans for the FR-S, so all the necessary engineering changes are already built in. For this reason, too, Toyota/Scion reckons the open-top version should weigh no more than the coupe, which is very impressive!

According to Toyota/Scion, the FT-86, the official name of this new concept, was created as a way to gauge customer reaction to a possible FR-S convertible. The FR-S Open concept uses the same 2.0-liter 200-horsepower 4-cylinder boxer engine as its closed-roof cousin. Officially the FR-S Open is only a concept, hence Toyota’s “Future Technology” FT-86 model designation. Expect reaction to be strong and for the car to move swiftly toward production.

The FT-86 has all but won the hearts of car enthusiasts everywhere, so we can only expect Toyota/Scion to start rolling out “real” versions of this awesome concept soon.
